Introduction
Bordering is a trans-disciplinary research project that combines cultural geography with artistic practice to creatively explore the relationship between place, identity and borders.
In spring 2006 cultural geographer Holly McLaren invited six artists to create new work in response to the cultural landscape of the borderland market town of Oswestry, situated in north west Shropshire. A research phase of situated engagement and exchange culminated in a series of events and activities at various locations within and around the town during October and November 2006, together with an exhibition at Qube.
This website records some of the creative, practical and dialogical processes through which each artwork evolved. It includes individual project proposals, research papers, and images and text from the final exhibition.

About
Developed principally as a programme of site-responsive public art, Bordering functions also as a researchable process; a mode of action research through which to critically consider the 'geographies' of contemporary art. This section situates Bordering within the wider framework of doctoral research concerning 'border art', the spatialities of art production and consumption, and collaborative practice.
